Setup
- 01Stand in an orthodox boxing stance with the left foot forward.
- 02Keep both hands up at cheek height with elbows tucked.
- 03Soften the knees and distribute weight evenly.
- 04Keep the chin down behind the lead shoulder.
Execution
- 01Pivot the left foot and rotate the hips sharply to the right.
- 02Whip the left arm around at shoulder height with the elbow bent near 90 degrees.
- 03Let the fist travel in a tight horizontal arc through the target line.
- 04Snap the arm back to guard and reset the stance.
Checkpoints
- -Power comes from the foot pivot and hip turn, not the arm alone.
- -The elbow stays bent and level with the fist through the arc.
- -The right hand stays up guarding the chin.
- -Balance is kept over both feet after the punch.
Common mistakes
- -Winding up and telegraphing the punch.
- -Dropping the punching hand before or after the hook.
- -Swinging with a straight arm like a wide slap.
- -Rotating the shoulders without pivoting the lead foot.
Programming notes
- -Drill in 2 to 3 minute rounds on a heavy bag or shadowboxing.
- -Use timed intervals of 20 to 40 seconds of fast hooks for conditioning.
- -Keep punches crisp; stop the round when technique degrades.
