Pattern

Low-to-high adduction

Setup

  1. 01Set both pulleys to the lowest position and attach single-grip handles.
  2. 02Stand centered between the columns and step forward into a staggered stance.
  3. 03Hold the handles at the sides with palms facing forward and elbows softly bent.
  4. 04Brace the trunk and keep a slight forward lean.

Execution

  1. 01Sweep both hands upward and together in a wide arc.
  2. 02Finish with the hands meeting around chest height in front of the body.
  3. 03Squeeze the chest for a beat at the top.
  4. 04Lower along the same arc until a stretch is felt at the front of the shoulders and chest.

Checkpoints

  • -Elbow bend stays fixed from start to finish.
  • -The hands travel up and in, not straight forward like a press.
  • -Shoulders stay down; no shrugging as the arms rise.
  • -Torso stays still with no backward lean to help the weight up.

Common mistakes

  • -Turning the movement into a front raise by keeping the arms too straight in front.
  • -Shrugging the traps as the hands rise.
  • -Swinging the torso backward to move heavier loads.
  • -Cutting the top short and skipping the squeeze.

Programming notes

  • -Use 3 to 4 sets of 10 to 15 reps as chest isolation after pressing.
  • -Rotate this with mid and high pulley flys across a block to cover all fiber angles.
  • -A 1 to 2 second squeeze at the top is worth more than added weight here.
